I love to be on the mountain top,
I love to breath it's air.
The beautiful view from the mountain top
Is lovely beyond compare.
I love to look from the mountain top
to the valley far below.
It seems to be much clearer there
Than the valley could ever know.
But I cannot stay on the mountain top.
it was never meant to be.
It is only for a moment's time
I can share its ecstasy.
I must see, while on the mountain top,
God's purpose for my life.
I must hasten, then from my lofty peak
to a valley full of strife.
No, I cannot live on the mountain top,
instead God says to me,
"You will find Me in your valleys, too,
I will always be with thee."
So, come down from the mountain top
With its beauty and its calm.
To make, with the flowers and herbs you've found.
A fragrant smelling balm.
You may never know how your mountain top
May help a friend in need.
As you meet him in the valley
And salve his wounds that bleed.
Remember, it's not the mountain top
Alone that makes you strong.
You must sometimes fast and pray
In the valleys that come along.
I'll someday dwell on the mountain top
That God has made for me.
No more valleys will come my way,
Christ's love has seen me through.
