Save A Friend
If you would be friend to me
Don't say. "I love you."
Don't call me special or unique.
Just take the time to know me.
I need your love
And affirmation too much
to clutch at the straw of words.
How easily words flow
in this new Christianity!
Everyone loves everyone.
The whole world
is the whole world's lover.
But I'm not the whole world.
I am myself, and I don't know
who I am anymore.
If I ever did.
I don't want your promiscuous loving.
Give that to the faceless world.
But could we take the time
to be friends?
Is there time enough for that
in this era of instant brotherhood?
Do you have the time
to talk to me
let me know you care
before rushing off to your next conquest?
Is it so terribly important
to save the world
if we can't stop to save a friend?
