MY 65th BIRTHDAY

I just turned 65 today
And it doesn't seem so bad,
I don't think I feel too sorry,
But I can't say I feel too glad.

It wasn't just my birthday,
For my body had one too,
There's the trouble with it all,
What I once did, I now can't do.

My hair somehow, is not so much,
Try as I may, my strength says `no',
My legs would rather not be used
But my spirit still says for me to go.

My eyes won't let me see too good
But I now see things that I never had,
I have more time now to see the good
But also more time to see the bad.

The rush is all behind me now,
I will be coasting from now on,
In life's mad race to stay ahead
I passed up treasures that are gone.

I now take time to hear the birds,
To watch the children, see the sky,
Good-bye to days of rush and strife,
Where once I always passed these by.

When I was young, time meant naught,
No thought of a swiftly passing day,
Who thought time would speed so fast
And that I would be 65 today.

When very young, I pulled on time,
It's sort of a joke, but true you see,
In middle years, we moved as one
But later on, time pulled on me.

Many things I am thankful for,
Far too many to have me say,
But one thing makes me very glad,
That I am really alive today.

Yes, today I had a birthday,
I added one year more;
Boy, that time went by so fast,
Seems only yesterday I was 64.

Many things I still want to see
While I am here on earth alive,
The first that comes to my mind is,
That I would really like to see 75.
